Prescott And The Cowboys Lead The East

The Dallas Cowboys Are The Only Remaining Undefeated Team In The NFC East.

Led by Quarterback Dak Prescott, the team boasts two division wins against both the Giants and the Redskins. The Cowboys are ranked #4 in the week 3 NFL power rankings, and the team shows no signs of slowing.

Prescott has been nothing short of sensational through the regular season, accumulating 7 touchdowns and a stellar 142.9 QBR. He’s also on the cover of this week’s Sports Illustrated.

While Dak has been playing his heart out, much of his success can be attributed to the play calling from new offensive coordinator Kellen Moore.

“[He] knows what I like to do… [He’s] comfortable calling the plays that I’m good with. It’s only just the beginning”. – Prescott on Kellen Moore after the week 1 win over the Giants.

Moore, a collegiate star at Boise State, was acquired by the Dallas Cowboys from Detroit in 2015 to play as the backup behind Brandon Weeden following an injury to Tony Romo. Moore officially retired as a player just one year ago in 2018 and became the Cowboy’s Quarterbacks coach. While Moore never made it as a starting NFL quarterback, he’s known to have one of the biggest offensive brains around.

“He’s just a guy that sees it different,” Prescott added

Moore’s innovative play calling has allowed Dak and the Dallas offense to excel in the passing game, but the brilliant new offensive strategy isn’t the only factor in this winning start.

The Cowboy’s schedule has undeniably contributed to their success, and it shows no signs of easing up until week 5 when the boys play Green Bay at home. Dallas faces the bottom-ranked Miami Dolphins in week 3, and the New Orleans Saints (who are without their elite QB Drew Brees) in week 4. However, the second half of the schedule is shaping up to be a difficult stretch. Out of the last eight opponents the cowboys will face during the regular season, five are currently ranked in the top 10.

With a one-game lead over the division rival Philadelphia Eagles, and a back-loaded schedule, Dallas appears to be in an excellent spot early in the season. If Prescott continues to flourish under Moore’s new offense, and the defense stays healthy, the Cowboys should remain the favorite to win the NFC East over the Philadelphia Eagles.

Dallas will play the Eagles on Sunday, October 20th.
