BREAKING DALLAS MAVERICKS NEWS
The Dallas Mavericks made some big roster moves yesterday that resulted in European basketball star Kristaps Porzingis making his way to the team. In the trade, the Mavericks received Tim Hardaway JR, Courtney Lee, and Kristaps Porzingis and gave away Dennis Smith Jr, Deandre Jordan, Wes Matthews, and a future 1st round pick.
Some critics believe the trade is not a smart move for the Mavericks. Others believe that a new dynamic duo is forming in Dallas with Luka Doncic pairing up with Porzingis. Some are even comparing this dynamic duo to the late Steve Nash & Dirk Nowitzki pairing, however, this duo never really lived up to the hype.
New York Nicks president reported that Kristaps Porzingis’ lack of buy-in contributed to the trade. “We feel like we did the right thing,” Mills said on a conference call Thursday night. “When you try to think about how you want to build your team for the long term, you don’t want to commit a max [contract] to a player who clearly says to you he doesn’t want to be here. That would be a disservice for our organization and disservice to our fans.”
There have been rumors of a trade ever since the 2017 offseason when Porzingis skipped his exit meeting. Recently, he was reportedly upset about the “franchise’s losing, its past dysfunction, and his own uncertainty over creating organizational success.”
Porzingis has been out all year with a torn ACL that he suffered last season. When he’s healthy, he’s shown that he can be a huge impact player.
He’s 7’3″ at forward and has the ability to make moves in the paint while also nailing long three point shots.
Despite all of his talent, he hasn’t been able to help a stagnant New York Nicks team which hasn’t made an NBA playoff since 2013. This fresh start he has may be exactly what he needs.
The pressure is certainly going to be on the Nicks this offseason now that they have traded away one of the best talents they have had on the team in decades.
I think Porzingis will make a big impact on the Mavs roster. Whether the impact will be positive or negative remains to be seen. If he manages to stay uninjured, he will be a solid player for the Mavericks.
